Indranil Banerjee’s short film speaks on issues like existential crisis and mental health
Independent filmmaker Indranil Banerjee’s latest short film ‘Urmimala’ has fetched accolades in the festival circuit. The hard-hitting short has bagged as many as six awards receiving appreciation from all corners. ‘Urmimala’ stars Asish Pathak, Piyali Dhar, Shampa Mukherjee, Satya Chandan Sardar and Gokul Mullick in pivotal roles. The story follows an established author suffering from an existential crisis whose life takes a swift turn one day after a series of events. An attractive, sensuous yet mysterious woman enters his room at midnight and introduces herself. Interestingly, the characters this author has created so far often travel between his imaginary world and reality. The question remains, is that so? The blurred line between reality and imagination often baffles us, even the author, and it forms the crux of this interesting storyline. Indranil’s abstract way of storytelling is surely praiseworthy but the extremely complicated script might mislead you in some part. However, be it the metaphorical riddles or the illusion of depth during the conversation between the author and the woman gives a twisted angle to the narrative. The execution of an interesting script also tempts viewers to choose their own conclusions.
