On International Dance Day celebrated danceuse Tanusree Shankar shared her insight on the art form with CT. “Dance is a language that I find to be the most beautiful and universal. It allows me to express my inner soul and transports me to a spiritual and divine world. Every day holds a sense of newness and significance when I engage in teaching or conducting dance rehearsals.
Dance has the power to free my mind from negativity and fills me with happiness.”
Shankar, who has been dancing for decades also said, “Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by this beautiful art form that I hold in high regard and worship. It has taught me valuable qualities such as humility, discipline, dedication, commitment, and respect for myself and my colleagues.
The dance exponent also spoke about her guru and her daughter. “My guru and mother-in-law, Srimati Amala Shankar, described her as a beautiful dancer, just like her grandfather. For dancers like us, International Dance Day is not limited to just one day. It is a celebration that occurs each and every day, as dance is an integral part of our lives. It is a constant source of inspiration, joy, and personal growth. I am filled with immense joy to see my daughter,
Sreenanda Shankar, embracing this wonderful art form,” she said.
Sreenanda on her part said, “Dance to me is like body language. I learnt to follow rhythm and groove to music before I learnt to walk. My legacy is heavy of course, but the two people who inspire me the most in my family are definitely my grandfather Uday Shankar, and my mother because of the way she is passing the style on in the most effective way. When we are together, especially under casual circumstances, we just bond over dance. Wishing all a very Happy World Dance Day! Dance your way through life!”
