Director Sunanda Mitra reacts to Buddhadeb Dasguptas comments on Leela Samson heading the Censor BoardDirector Sunanda Mitra has reacted to Buddhadeb Dasguptas comment on whether Leela Samson is qualified enough to be the CBFC chief. In the earlier interview, Dasgupta had said: In recent times, I find political clout is what ensures that a person gets a plum post.
Look at Leela Samson. She is a very reputed danseuse. We all respect her for that. But, have we ever found out whether she is equally well-versed or literate about cinema? Just because a person is a good dancer, it doesn't qualify her to be the Censor Board chief. I've been told that her proximity to certain ministers was influential in making her the Censor Board chief.
Reacting to this piece, Mitra says, I read the article on the famous Bharatnatyam danseuse, Leela Samson, becoming the CBFC chief and director Buddhadeb Dasguptas comment on it. I dont know whether close proximity to leading political parties decide portfolio of an individual or a celebrity but with my due respect to Ms. Samson for her immense talent and international repute, I must say that I too really get perturbed when I see that people from different fields altogether are heading departments that are not their forte. If I am a film maker and dedicated myself to films for a career, I am sure that I will not be able to be the head the department of Oncology in Medical College. This will not only imbalance the respective arenas but will also make literate people be at the mercy of personalities who expertise at a different filed altogether, Sunanda says.
