I’ve always had mixed feelings on my birthdays: Goutam Ghose

Goutam Ghose, who had a quiet birthday recently, turned 70 this year. “It’s sad that Uttam Kumar and Samit Bhanja’s death anniversary coincide with my birthday. And this year, Amala Shakar passed away on that day. So my birthdays always come with a mixed feeling,” said the director, adding, “My daughter and son-in-law came over to our place and we had a quiet dinner.Corona and lockdown were the topics of discussion in all gatherings, so we made it a point to avoid those. Instead, my son Ishan was talking about his independent film, Jhilli, which he has directed. Ishan assisted me in many films and I was feeling proud as a father when he was telling us how, with a small unit, he had shot the film.”
The director who started shooting for the Indo-Italian project, titled Parikrama, had to stop midway because of the pandemic and lockdown. “We have completed 35 per cent of the shoot in Europe. We will have to shoot in Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh too but in this current situation, I have no clue when we will be able to do so. The film is about an Italian protagonist working on ecology. And now I realise, the topic is so relevant in today’s time,” said Goutam.
