‘Jahnabi’: Anirban Dutta’s film an anecdote of rivers
Independent filmmaker Anirban Dutta’s directorial debut ‘Jahnabi’ will surely give you enough food for thoughts. It delves deep into the similarity between a woman and a river, where both endure different phases and emotions in life and despite all the challenges they serve the responsibilities of being a mother aptly. They may get hurt or betrayed; a woman or a river never stops in spreading love.

Given all these aspects, the society is still largely indifferent to care for mothers. The film has Jahnabi Mitra, Jagannath Mondal, and Ranadhir Biswas in the lead.
“As I was planning, this subject moved me as the most apt, relevant and hard-hitting. The diverse relationship between river and human civilization remains prehistoric, and that’s where the roots of the parallel between my story of a woman and the journey of a river exist,” said Anirban while speaking about his debut project.
Jahnabi, the central character, reflects every woman in her loving nature, abundance, and deprivation. Her aspirations, moods, disappointments or silence, all echoes in the river as it never stops running its course.
The theatrical release of ‘Jahnabi’ is expected in June next year. However there will be back to back premieres on December 22 at ICCR.
