It's a film inspired by Ritwik Ghatak's life and philosophy. And now TOI has learnt that Kamaleswar Mukherjee's next, starring Saswata Chatterjee and Ananya Chatterjee, is going to be called 'Meghe Dhaka Tara'.
The title is bound to draw comparisons with Ghatak's iconic 1960 film of the same name. Won't that pile a lot of pressure on the director, who made a splash with his 'Uro Chithi' last year?
Kamaleswar reasoned, 'Neither is my film Ritwik's biopic, nor is it a remake of his legendary film.

It tells a story in a completely new style, and has no similarity with the original. I'm inspired by all of Ghatak's works and his life; 'MDT' is just one of them. The audience will realize this once they watch my film. It'll probably release by mid-October.'
Kamaleswar has his own logic behind the name. 'The reason my film is called 'MDT' is because Neelkantha (Saswata's character), despite being a star, is covered in clouds. The title will also create a connection between Ghatak and my film's hero, Neelkantha.'
Shrikant Mohta, from the production house, is not worried about comparisons with Ghatak's classic. 'We did some brainstorming, but couldn't think of another title. 'MDT' goes well with the film's storyline. As far as comparisons go, people will have to watch Kamaleswar's film before they can take a call,' he said.
