Prosenjit Chatterjee is no more a part of it, but a lot seems to be brewing at Shoojit Sircars Madras Cafe. Arijit Dutta has been roped in to play an LTTE commando in the film, which will also mark his Bollywood debut.
From what has emerged so far, Prosenjit too was supposed to play a militant in the film. But Arijit says he is not doing the role, which was turned down by the actor. I was already a part of the venture before Prosenjit Chatterjee backed out. Even then, Im the only actor from Kolkata to be a part of the venture. Talking about how he was signed on for the role, Arijit says, Around a month back, I met Shoojit at a party. He tapped my shoulder and when I turned around, he said, Will you do a role in my film? I was pleasantly surprised, but thought it was for a Bengali film, since Shoojit was the producer of Aparajita Tumi. Next I got calls from the unit and Shoojit also asked me to send him my portfolio pictures in jungle gear and Gandhi specs. He loved what he saw and I landed myself the role.
Arijit will be joining the unit in Cochin from December 12, where he has a three-day schedule, before heading to Delhi and Mumbai to complete the next leg of the shoot. All geared up to begin shooting, Arijit says, The script has been sent to me, but the best part about Shoojit is that he doesnt insist on cramming the dialogues. Theres a lot of room for improvization. So, will he be more focussed on acting from now on,
considering that he has only done cameos in Tollywood films so far? For me, acting has always been fun. Ive done cameos in 30 films, but after Madras Cafe and also Goutam Ghoses Shunyo Awnko, where I play an activist, I think Ill be more choosy about roles, he says.
