Kolkata musicians are doing an item number!
Theyve been there, done that made people dance to their tunes. But now, they are taking a step forward, literally so.
Popular city musicians Sidhu of Cactus, Subhajit of Lakkhichhara and Surojit of Bhoomi will be seen doing an item number in Handa and Bhonda, starring Mithun Chakraborty and Aritra Dutta Banik.

The music of the film is scored by Surojit and the said number, Generation gap, which is also the punchline of the film, is sung by all the three band frontliners. Subhankar Chattopadhyay, who decided to have the number featured on the singers, tags the approach innovative. Singers too put in a lot of effort but hardly come in front of the camera.
Im sure the audience is going to like the idea. The song comes with the end credit rolls, says the director.
Music director Surojit is all for the hip hop track and claims nothing of this sort has been heard in Bengali films so far. But does getting jiggy come naturally to a performer? Surojit has a different story to share, It was messy. Im out of the habit of going to discs and dont dance that much even in live gigs. So, getting used to all the action around took me a tad bit time. But the choreography wasnt that difficult and we were left to ourselves to decide on the moves. That helped.

Sidhu, on the other hand, is quite a stunner on the dancefloor. The singer, as expected, had great fun shooting. But matching steps with professional dancers was no mean feat, explains Sidhu. Every kind of music gets me into the groove. But moving in a certain rhythm is very different from pulling off great moves on camera. All around were the top participants of a dance reality show. I was all nerves in the beginning but things fell into place, he says. But the singer cant stop raving about the nonsense lyrics of the number. The film is an out-and-out comedy and the songs add on to the fun quotient. I just hope I dont look ridiculous, Sidhus anxiousness gives way.
Subhajit says he too was jittery about shooting the song sequence. Ive done umpteen number of stage shows and have also featured in television programmes. But films are a different ballgame altogether much more complicated, to say the least. The director was very
supportive and so was Melvin Clayburn, who shot this particular video with us. I would say, their patience paid off, Subhajit quips. The singer, whos known for prancing around the stage in live gigs, pulled off a cross-legged jump and cant stop smiling ever since. It was a great experience, he says. Now, its up to the audience to join in.
