‘Pinjar’ selected at SAFFM, alongside Mamata Shankar’s two films

Director Rudrajit Roy’s Bengali feature ‘Pinjar’ has been officially selected at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, marking a significant international milestone in the film’s journey.
A layered, introspective narrative, ‘Pinjar’ explores themes of confinement, memory and psychological trauma, focusing on the invisible emotional burdens individuals carry. The film has drawn attention for its restrained storytelling and evocative cinematic treatment.

“The selection of ‘Pinjar’ at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal is a proud and emotional milestone for all of us. This film speaks about the unseen cages of the human mind, and it is truly gratifying to see such a rooted Bengali story resonate on an international platform,” Roy said, adding that he hopes the recognition will open doors for more meaningful cinema from Bengal.
The selection is further underscored by the presence of veteran actor Mamata Shankar at the festival with two films—‘Pinjar’ and ‘Bijoyar Pore’, directed by Abhijit Sri Das.
The dual showcase highlights Shankar’s enduring cinematic legacy while reflecting the growing global visibility of contemporary Bengali cinema.
