Premendu Bikash Chaki pays tribute to Ray

Cinematographer and filmmaker Premendu Bikash Chaki has paid tribute to Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary through a 25 minute-long film Rayscope. The film was screened at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival on Friday at Nandan III.

While talking about the film, Premendu Bikash said, “It was during the second wave of Covid, I thought of making this film. It was a scary time and despite my intention, it was impossible to step out to do something,” he recalled.

However, taking a cue from his lockdown film, Laptop, he chose five scenes from five

. He sent it to a bunch of people, including film buffs, critics, journalists et al and they spoke about the film. “I chose these five films because I found these films grew on me as I aged. The interviewees talked about how these films impacted them and how they are still relevant in our society. All of them send the interview through their mobile phone and we made Rayscope,” the director said.

Besides, Premendu Bikash has also made a three-minute-long tribute for Ray’s centenary tribute exhibition. “That was made in a time when we started stepping out. It was made in a studio,” he said.
