Prosenjit Chatterjee is at a loss for words. The Tollywood superstar is emotionally drenched while speaking about his association with
Bappi Lahiri.
“I am simply shocked. Didn’t realize that Bappi da will leave us so soon. I still remember how the Prosenjit-Bappi Lahiri pair worked wonders in Bengali cinema. Starting with ‘Amar Sangi’, he had sung in so many films that I starred in.
Not just Bengali, even the Hindi films I did, all have Bappi da’s music. People have always loved the songs created by Prosenjit-Bappi Lahiri jodi,” recalls an emotional Prosenjit.
The celebrated actor also goes down memory lane while speaking about the personal relationship he had with the legendary singer-composer. “Whenever I was in Mumbai he took great care of me. His contribution to Indian music and film industry will always be remembered. The huge popularity he had even outside India is unthinkable. His works in Hindi films are international level. He has left us so early. I believe Bappi Da had so much more to give to our industry,” added the ‘Kakababur Protyaborton’ actor.
Bappi Lahiri who passed away at a Mumbai hospital on February 15 is regarded as the pioneer of disco beats in the country while he had composed so many popular songs in Bengali including ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Aamar’. He made his Bengali debut with the 1972 film ‘Daadu’.
