No, 'Debi Choudhurani' isn't what Raj Chakrabarty is thrilled about, at least now. After months of speculation, it has come to the fore that the director is busy making a thriller, putting his magnum opus on the back burner.Titled 'Kanamachi', the cast of the film includes Srabanti, Payel Sarkar, Ankush and Abir Chatterjee. Script is by Abhimanyu Mukherjee, while music is scored by Indraadip Das Gupta.
The film will be on the floors in January, 2012.
Confirming the news, Ashok Dhanuka from the production house said, 'Yes, we are making a film with Raj, and it will bear his signature style. 'Kanamachi' is a thriller with a strong political angle.' Giving an insight into the storyline, a source from the unit said, 'It is a youth-oriented film, where the contemporary political and socio-economic issues are being questioned and debated. The story revolves around a group of journalists. Crime plays an important role in this film. 'Kanamachi' also has a love angle, better to say, a love triangle between Srabanti, Payel and Ankush.' Indradeep has already started working on the film's music, which includes thriller elements. Says the composer, 'I plan to use a lot of electronica. I will also be recording a live band for the film.' The cast too is no less upbeat about Raj's latest venture. Abir, who plays a pivotal role in the film, said, 'Rajda told me about 'Kanamachi' when I was shooting for his serial. I haven't yet read the script as I am shooting for Bomkesh but I blindly trust him. All I can reveal at this point in time is that the character I play has a lot of shades and the audience will get to see a different Abir in this film.' Ankush, who'll be getting under the skin of a photo journalist, said, 'I am a big Raj Chakrabarty fan. My job in the film is to expose the darker side in politicians/bureaucrats. I capture candid moments like a politician rubbing off the dirt once he is through with donating garments to the needy,' smiled Ankush.Payel too is happy playing a journo, who shows interest crime reporting. 'I am not supposed to divulge details. I am trying to watch the reporters closely so that I can get a feel about their job,' the actor said. While the rest of the cast has some amount of familiarity with the director, it's Srabanti's first with Raj. 'At last, I've got a chance to work with Rajda. For once, I'll not be playing a bubbly girl on screen! I play a fearless reporter, who can do anything for her profession. I watched 'No One Killed Jessica' recently and liked Rani Mukerji's role.' Even though members from Raj's team didn't mind pouring their hearts out, seems like the director is in a mood to keep the thrill factor alive. Despite repeated calls, Raj's phone went unanswered. The plot thickens...
