In what will no doubt come as a huge inspiration for independent and aspiring filmmakers, Ranadeep Sarker’s rural love story ‘Nupur’ has now entered the fifth straight week despite facing tough competitions from the big budget releases last week. A number of eminent directors like Srijit Mukherji, Arindam Sil, Aniket Chattopadhyay, and Anindya Chatterjee saw their new films released on October 12.
Still, ‘Nupur’ continues to surprise audience with it’s refreshing touch of rural lifestyle since its release on September 21.
Made on a shoestring budget, ‘Nupur’ is set against the backdrop of 1970's Purulia. It’s a unique story of a young couple Nupur and Bangshi who can’t speak since their birth. Inspired by the epic love story of
Radha and
Krishna, ‘Nupur’ resonates a similar essence through a poetic and musical backdrop. While newcomer Tanushree plays the titular role of Nupur, popular TV actor Suvajit Kar is Bangshi. The rest of the cast includes
Biswajit Chakraborty, Debika Mukherjee, Lucky Barua, Srirupa Saha, Pritam Chaule, Suma Dey and others.
The film also encapsulates Jaidev's ‘Geet Govind’ and the famous ‘Sukh Sari Kotha’, used for the first time in Bengali cinema, to draw a parallel between the divine love saga of Radha-Krishna and a couple from rural background.
