Rituparna Sengupta, who has acted in many inspiring women-centric films, feels only celebrating March 8 as International Women’s Day will do no good to women. “I feel every day is Women’s Day as they are the creators of life, so there’s no need to celebrate womanhood for just a day. Instead, respect women 365 days a year as that would be more meaningful. Rape and abuse of women have to stop. Otherwise, we won't get anywhere,” the actress said.
“We keep reading news reports of children getting raped and I feel these atrocities have to end somewhere,” said the actress, adding, “In many of my films like Paromitar Ek Din, Dahan, Mukhtodhara and many more, I’ve played strong female characters who stood up for themselves. Rather than criticising another woman, let’s unite to fight in this patriarchal society. In fact, I just completed shooting for Ranjan Ghosh’s film Mahishasuramardini. The film is on women's empowerment and how women try to fight all adversities like Ma Durga. The film is actually an apology letter to women who face discrimination and are often victimised by not just men, but women as well in this patriarchal system.”
