Rituparna Sengupta is shooting in Chinsurah for
Ranjan Ghosh’s Mahishasuramardini along with
Parambrata Chatterjee and
Saswata Chatterjee. The film is on women's empowerment and how women try to battle all the adversities like Ma Durga. “It is a story of one night during
Durga Puja. The film shows how women are not only victims of domestic violence, but there are other issues too which they fight every day,” said Rituparna.
Talking about her character, the actress said, “I play Stuti, an air force pilot.
It is a powerful character who talks less and has a very strong personality. She has gone through a lot in life but yet she is composed. There comes a point in her life when she has to take a strong decision and the film shows how she does that. Stuti is married but we don’t get to see her husband in the film. Only his mention comes in the flashback. We will see Stuti in a relationship with Humayun (Saswata), a politician by profession. Parambrata plays an interesting role of an election strategist in this film. How the three characters connect is this film all about.”
This is Rituparna’s third film with Ranjan after Ahaa Re and Rong Beronger Kori. “As an actor, it is a pleasure to work with Ranjan as I feel as a director he can deal with sensitive issues efficiently in his films,” said Rituparna.
The film also stars Kaushik Kar, Shaheb Bhattacherjee, Poulami, among others.
