Rituparno Ghosh for more than a decade, Devlina Mukhopadhyay ��� daughter of author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay ��� is set to turn filmmaker. As reported by CT earlier, her first film will be an adaptation of Shirshendu���s
Siri Bhenge Bhenge.
Devlina has procured the rights to the story and has already registered the title with Eastern India Motion Pictures Association.

The story revolves around Basudeb Sengupta���s sudden demise while climbing up the stairs of his eight-storey apartment. Sabar reads about it in the newspaper. Basudeb being a distant relative of Sabar, he visits the bereaved family at Akash Pradip apartments and tries to unearth the reason why a cardiac patient ditched the elevator and opted for the stairs. ���This film will be my tribute to Rituparno Ghosh. Having worked as an assistant to the master filmmaker, I know it for a fact that he wanted to make a film out of the story. We are currently through with the first draft of the script and will take around three months to complete pre-production,��� says Devlina.
While
Indraneil Sengupta has been confirmed in the role of Sabar, talks are on with Ananya Chatterjee to essay a key character. Says Indraneil, ���I have liked the story of
Siri Bhenge Bhenge and told the director that I am game for it.��� Devlina has also spoken to
Victor Banerjee,
Rudranil Ghosh and
Rajatava Dutta for other roles in the film.
