Be it her career, her star status in the Bengali industry, or her increasing fan-following; all are a result of her sheer hard work. Tanushree Chakraborty has successfully created a niche for herself with her acting prowess. The actress has films like ‘Obhishopto Nighty’, ‘Cross Connection 2’, ‘Bedroom’ and others to her credit. Last year,
Arindam Sil’s ‘Durga Sohay’ introduced Tanushree as a pure traditional Bengali beauty and now she has another challenge in hand.
For the first time, the actress will be seen as a rough and tough police officer in her upcoming ‘Aaleya’ and she is super excited about the Humayun Kabir directed action thriller. Ahead of its grand release on June 29, we caught up with Tanushree as she spoke her heart out in an exclusive chat with us. Here are the excerpts:
It’s the first time you will be seen as a daring cop. How challenging was it to get into the character? It was quite challenging, both physically and mentally. I had to learn a lot of things like police training, riding bikes and I also observed how the cops carry out their investigations. So, for almost one and a half months I had to undergo vigorous training but was a great experience.
This is the first time Humayun Kabir is directing a film? How was your experience working with him? It’s a great advantage that an IPS officer has directed ‘Aaleya’, otherwise it would have been extremely hard to portray the police officer’s character keeping every single detail in mind. I did my best to get into the character. It is probably my best performance so far. The audience will understand the effort I have put in once they see the film.
Any memorable incident from the shooting?Frankly speaking, there are a lot of memorable incidents like firing arms, donning proper police uniform, handling case files, investigating like them. To sum up, I will treasure these memories of working with Humayun Da. He is such a perfectionist and we learnt many things from him. Surely, a lifetime experience!
Is Tanushree Chakraborty in real life the same as her daring character in the film?Believe me, I am completely different in real life. That’s why it was a challenge for me to play the police officer’s character. Before this, I didn’t even know how to ride bikes. But now I am in love with bikes, especially the bullet. When the producers approached me to read the script first, I was so excited and felt I should take this challenge. I knew I would learn many things from ‘Aaaleya’.
Few words in the film had to be muted on CBFC’s suggestion. Will this affect the film’s narrative? The narrative won’t be affected but we won’t be able to show the exact things that we planned initially. I don’t know why is there are so many restrictions for the films. The news channels also show a lot of things. Why aren’t they barred from showing those things? If we can portray those things, I think it would have looked more real.
Apart from ‘Aaleya’, you are also playing the female lead in ‘Flat No. 609’ opposite Abir Chatterjee? If yes, how was your experience? We both are very jolly persons. We know each other for a long time. Abir is always making jokes, pulling legs. He is simply a great guy to work with. This will be the first time I will share screen space with him. In ‘Bedroom’, we didn’t have any scene together. However, there was one film in which we were paired together but it didn’t release. I am looking forward to ‘Flat No. 609’ too.
Do you have any vacation plans in mind? Not really. But I will be going abroad for the 2018 Bengali Convention. I will leave on June 26. Unfortunately, I won’t be present when ‘Aaleya’ releases.
World Cup fever is on. Which team are you supporting?Come on, football means Brazil. I am crazy for Samba. I can’t support any other team in World Cup and will not be missing any single Brazil match. They are the five times champion and I believe this year also it will be Neymar and his boys.
