Eminent filmmaker
Goutam Halder passed away at the age of 67 on Friday at a private hospital in Kolkata after he suffered a cardiac arrest. Earlier that morning, he had complained of chest pain.

Vidya Balan, who made her Bengali film debut in Halder’s 2003 film
Bhalo Theko, flew to Kolkata to pay her last respects, deeply saddened by his sudden demise. Last month he had accompanied Vidya on her trip to the city, when she visited Kalighat temple.
Halder was known for directing approximately 80 stage plays, including recent productions like Rabindranath Tagore’s
Rakta Karabi.
He had also directed
Nirvana in 2019 starring Rakhi Gulzar in the lead role.
