The frontman of city-based folk band, Sahajiya, Deb Chowdhury turned a year older. The singer is celebrating a quarantine birthday at home. Giving us details of his birthday celebration, Deb, told us, "This year I have started my birthday celebration with an online live concert, organised by the Tagore Society, Houston, USA. It is a global project on the occasion of Tagore's 159th birth anniversary.
The coronavirus pandemic has made us all a different person. It is a learning experience for us. I know how people around me are suffering. They have lost their jobs. They are depending on others for their daily means. How can I have a lavish celebration during this time? So many people do not have food even. So, If you say celebration in terms of party, I am not doing anything this year. My aunt had made chholar daal and beguni for me, one of my very close friends had made fish kalia and sent it over to my house. My elder brother and sister-in-law from Texas, USA, had sent Hilsa through an online grocery delivery service so I even relished some Hilsa fires." The singer, along with his brother, Debankan Chowdhury, is also doing a lot of soical work during this time of crisis. "Through an organisation headed by my brother, we are feeding several needy people staying on the streets and on railway station platforms. We are also providing food to around 300 stray animals," shared Deb. He is also busy doing a quarantine music project in collaboration with Rudraneel Chowdhury, Kingshuk Chakraborty and Rudra Sarkar. "It is new in concept and we have named it Folk Connect. We are almost at the final stage and I am doing some last minute work on this unique project. It is going to release very soon," added Deb. Sharing with us his birthday resolution, Deb said, "I want to be a more responsible citizen from now on and I hope to stand beside people who are in despair. I also wish Mother Nature recovers at the earliest."
