Musician Avirup Das, aka Bunty, the percussionist of city-based folk band, Fakira, turned a year older today. He told us that he’s celebrating his special day at home by gorging on yummy dishes prepared by his mother. “Last year, I had celebrated a lockdown birthday at home but this year, a few of my friends and colleagues from the music industry will come down to my place.
I had a sumptuous lunch at home comprising mangsho, bhat, five types of fritters, payesh, chutney and mishti doi. A few of my fans and well-wishers also sent over surprise gifts and cakes,” Avirup told us.
We also asked him about his birthday resolution this year. “The last one year has been extremely tough for independent musicians and bands. Though we had done one or two digital concerts, we hardly earned anything from them. There haven’t been many stage show offers post lockdown. And given the surge in COVID cases now, I don’t know how soon the situation will get better. On my birthday, I pledge to do my bit as a responsible citizen and follow all the COVID-19 safety protocols.”
