Deb Sankar Roy and Jyoti Sankar Roy, who are more popularly known as the Violin Brothers, are taking up a new challenge this year. They have decided to compose music for an upcoming television serial this year. According to plans, Bengali film director Raj Chakrabarty will be associated with the production.
Deb Sankar told us that they have decided to take up the project after considering a number of things.
First, despite working in the Bengali industry for more than 25 years and with a number of renowned directors like
Tapan Sinha and Mrinal Sen, the
Brothers never worked as composers. “We usually work with music composed by us and are more interested in World Music. So, we thought that our freedom will be less if we start working in films. Now, however, we have decided to take it as a challenge and if everything goes well, we will soon debut as composers,” he said, adding that if this projects goes well, they will start scoring music for films.
Deb Sankar said they are also getting very good response from the single they released recently. The project is on Je Raate – a song by Tagore. The song has been sung by Brishtilekha and based on string instruments like
violin, viola and cello. “It has been released on different online media and doing very well ,” he added.
