After the Oscars ceremony, everyone is now busy analysing how the others who lost out on the awards reacted. Even as Jamie Lee Curtis’s name was being announced for winning the Oscar award for Best Supporting Actress, the camera panned on to the other nominees for the award. While
Jamie Lee Curtis was shocked and surprised at first to hear her name, she soon broke out in excitement.
The other nominees clapped, but one looked almost glum, silent and wooden. That one person was Angela Bassett and her look – of abject disappointment, perhaps of being “snubbed” as described by various media reports – has since gone viral. She was the clear favourite and was being considered as the frontrunner to win this award for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Her fans described her look as emotional and are praising her for not putting up a show and pretending to be excited when Jamie Lee Curtis’s name was announced.
According to a report in the UK website of the Independent, Angela has had to face this disappointment at the Oscars for the second time. The first was in 1994 when she was nominated for Best Actress for her role of
Tina Turner in her biopic, What’s Love Got to Do With It but was beaten by
Holly Hunter who won the award for The Piano.
