Angelina Jolie reflects on her time away from Hollywood and How ‘Maria’ helped her heal

Angelina Jolie shared her experiences about the challenging years she faced after her highly publicized divorce from Brad Pitt. The Hollywood actress, known for her powerful on-screen performances and humanitarian efforts, opened up about the emotional struggles she endured during her time away from acting.

As a mother of six—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox—Jolie said her focus shifted entirely to her children.

She confessed that her career choices during those years were driven more by practicality than creativity. However, Jolie described her role in Maria, a biographical film about opera legend Maria Callas directed by Pablo Larraín, as a turning point in her life.
The actress explained that working on Maria felt like the beginning of her return to life and creativity. She described the experience as deeply healing and expressed gratitude for the kind and supportive people she collaborated with on the project. Jolie emphasized the importance of feeling safe with her creative team, especially when dealing with such intense emotional material.
Reflecting on her absence from Hollywood, Jolie admitted that she hadn’t felt like herself for a long time.
