Film producers Arti and Kailash Surendranath are back from their trip to Cannes where their film A Mighty Heart, an adaptation of slain journalist Daniel Pearl's wife, Marianne's memoirs, premiered on May 21.
"This was my first big Hollywood moment. Kailash and I walked the red carpet, not once, but on three occasions and our proudest moment was when A Mighty Heart premiered and we got a standing ovation. It was our first big involvement with Hollywood and that too of this scale," says Arti, who carried out the production services of the film in India.
Naturally, it must have been a high to walk with Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Marianne Pearl on the famed red carpet, along with the film's director Michael Winterbottom and actors Dan Futterman, Archie Punjabi and Irrfan Khan.
How was it meeting Angelina after the film's shooting in India? "Angelina Jolie is larger than life, and still very real. She and Marianne Pearl walked the red carpet with her son Adam. She wore no jewellery, nothing lavish and kept it really simple. Even the celebratory dinner had only immediate cast and crew as guests and was very low key," continues Arti.
When Kailash was welcomed with a 'Hey man, how are you doing?' by none other than Brad Pitt, he was floored to say the least. "We shared a great bond during the shoot in India and especially, the time we made rounds of the police stations.
In fact, Arti and Angelina had a tearful moment after the screening of the film when Arti complemented Angelina for her performance and how real it was. And that was the object of this film. Other than that, Cannes was one big party as usual," says Kailash.
