The latest addition to the hit ‘Superman’ franchise almost had another Clark Kent at hand.
Skyler Gisondo, who plays the role on the big screen as Jimmy Olsen, got candid about his role in the film. While talking in an interview, he shared a hilarious story of how he came to audition for the role and how he thought that he was going for ‘Clark Kent’.
Skyler Gisondo jokes about auditioning for ‘Superman’
In a recent interview held by The Hollywood Reporter at the LA premiere of the film, Gisondo talked about how he came to audition for the role of Jimmy Olsen in the film. He shared that at the time when he had created the audition tape, he had the role of ‘Clark Kent’ in mind and had prepared accordingly.
He continued and sent in his audition tape to the famed production studios. He then later came to find out that he was being considered for the role of Jimmy Olsen instead. While taking on the mishap as a funny anecdote, Gisondo reveals that ‘it would’ve been a huge mistake’ if he were cast as ‘Superman’ instead of
David Corenswet.
“He (Corenswet) was the right guy for the job. And I’m happy to let him get this win, man. He needed it, and going into this, I was thinking I was going to bulk up too; I was planning on getting really jacked. And then I saw David, and he’d only made so much progress, and I thought, 'I don’t want to upstage him,' and so I really scaled back, and I let him shine,” the actor continued while sharing the adorable mishap.
Skyler even went on to share that he had been judging the director and creators of the film for choosing him. He continued that the only thought that could get inside his head was that “Man, [director] James [Gunn] is always really thinking outside the box; I wouldn’t be his first pick.”
Skyler stars as Jimmy Olsen, along with an extremely talented cast that includes David Corenswet as Superman,
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and
Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
