School Spirits Season 2 premiere: Maddie seeks answers about her possession and Mr. Martin’s role

The second season of School Spirits picks up right where the first season ended, with Maddie gaining clarity about her situation. In the premiere episode, titled “Whatever Happened to Maddie Nears?” Maddie discovers the truth about her death. Contrary to what she had believed, Maddie is not actually dead. Instead, a ghost named Janet, who was supposed to cross over before Maddie entered the afterlife, had taken over Maddie’s body.
The episode starts with Maddie feeling the presence of her ghost friends, Rhonda, Wally, and Charley, knocking on the door of the fallout shelter where she’s hiding. As Maddie is about to open the door, she notices Mr. Martin standing nearby. She questions him about what happened, and he appears guilty, but hesitates to answer. This leads to a flashback showing the moment when Janet took control of Maddie's body. In the flashback, after colliding with Maddie, Janet's spirit took over her body. Maddie was knocked unconscious, bleeding from a head injury she sustained when hitting a pipe in the boiler room. Mr. Martin tried to reason with Janet but failed, and Janet fled the scene before he could stop her.
Back in the present day, Mr. Martin realizes he’s in a difficult situation and quickly flees from Maddie. Maddie, determined to get answers, chases after him. Meanwhile, the ghostly trio—Rhonda, Wally, and Charley—find a way out of the fallout shelter through a secret passageway. However, the passageway leads them to the very locations where they died, causing them to briefly relive their deaths before they quickly get up to rejoin Maddie.
Maddie continues to pursue Mr. Martin outside the school, but just before she can catch him, he disappears. As she searches for him, the ghostly trio catches up with her. At the same time, Simon is struggling with the possibility that Maddie might only be a figment of his imagination, which frustrates him deeply. He angrily pulls posters off his bedroom wall, questioning his perception of reality.
In another part of the story, Janet, now inhabiting Maddie’s body, boards a bus heading to Detroit. The flashback continues, showing how after escaping Mr. Martin, Janet used the secret passage to flee the school grounds, with Mr. Martin trying, but failing, to stop her.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Nicole and Claire are outside Xavier’s room, where he remains in a coma. Claire wants to report Maddie to the police, believing she is responsible for what happened to Xavier. However, Nicole refuses to believe that Maddie would hurt Xavier and convinces Claire to wait for Xavier to wake up, certain there is more to the story than what they know.
