When Riley Keough gave birth to her daughter in August 2022, she and her husband Ben Smith-Peterson thought it would be a fitting tribute to her grandfather Elvis Presley if their little baby was named after the city where Elvis was born.
So it happened that Tupelo Storm Smith-Peterson got her name. The irony is that the child was named before the Elvis biopic release date which made the city in Mississippi where Elvis was born a well known name. Riley revealed that Tupelo was not really a well known name — “It is not like Memphis or something” she had said. But when the film came out, everything was “Tupelo this and Tupelo that.”
Little Tupelo’s middle name belongs to Riley’s brother, Benjamin Keough who passed away about three years ago. Riley also gave more details about the baby’s birth and said that she was born through surrogacy because she herself suffers from Lyme disease. Riley also disclosed that she had recently sought treatment in Switzerland for her autoimmune disorder at a holistic treatment centre. This was a treatment that was not available in the US.
