Critic's Rating: ****
German producer Anton ‘Zedd’ Zaslavski’s album has a soundscape so free-flowing, none of the songs have a drop — usually part of the chorus where the bass gets heavy — that is normally heard in popular music today.
Opening track
Hourglass is slow to start and hypnotising in its beat, with soft vocals. It smoothly leads up to
Shave It Up that immediately ups the tempo with a fast-paced hook that switches to an electric piano.
Spectrum is vocal-driven love song that talks of the mixed feelings of contentment and anxiety that come with being in a relationship.
The title track is arguably the best; it’s an uplifting number with beautiful lyrics, followed by an addictive beat and a low humming chorus. Another standout is
Stache that starts fast but has more depth to it than the average EDM track.
Zedd has poured his heart out into every track; it’s evident in every purposeful note, methodically placed synth squeal and painstaking snare hit. The attention to detail in the album is stunning, allowing the album to transcend into a probable classic for the current wave of dance music.
