Beartooth singer Caleb Shomo comes out as gay: ‘It’s been difficult to navigate the feelings’

Beartooth has been a part of the music industry for quite some time now. One of the band’s members, Caleb Shomo, recently shared an emotional post on social media, revealing that he is gay. The singer opened up about dealing with his emotions and reflected on the journey leading up to his revelation.The singer and rock band frontman recently took to social media to speak openly about his identity as a queer man. He began his post by writing, “There's been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late, and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further.”He explained that he wanted to clarify things himself before rumours spiralled further. He then added, “I am a proudly gay man. This is something I've been unpacking and reckoning with in my life for quite some time now. It's been difficult to navigate the feelings surrounding the subject and figure out what to do with this fact.”Further in the post, Shomo reflected on how his identity as a gay man has deeply influenced his music and creative process over the years.“I have always strived to chase who I am in the deepest part of my soul from album to album,” he wrote.“As you could gather if you've followed the band at all in the earlier years, there are four very self-deprecating albums about exploring my religious upbringing, depression, self-hatred, self-loathing, and hopelessness,” he added.In the same post, the singer also addressed his long struggle with alcohol and how it became a coping mechanism while he grappled with his emotions.“I spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol, and honestly, when I decided to put it down and focus on exploring why I felt this way for so long, it's been a direct path to me reconciling with my sexuality in hopes that it will eventually lead to me experiencing self-love,” he shared.Caleb Shomo is the founding member of Beartooth and is currently the only original member remaining since the band was formed in 2012.
