The ceremony followed Lipa's performance at the Sunny Hill festival and included a special serenade by children.

The Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani granted Dua Lipa citizenship. In an online post, the ‘Houdini’ singer revealed that she was granted citizenship, and that she feels “grateful” and utterly happy about this.

Dua Lipa’s Kosovan citizenship

Dua Lipa’s roots lie in Kosovo, as she was born in London to Kosovan-Albanian parents. They later shifted back to the country’s capital after Kosovo gained its independence in 2008. Lipa then moved back to London at the mere age of 15.Her social media story shared a photo of her holding her citizenship proof in a framed case, while standing alongside the Kosovan president, Vjosa Osmani. “Feeling so grateful to have been awarded my Kosovan citizenship by our president vjosaosmani,” she wrote with the story.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, shared an update on her social media accounts. Posting pictures from the ceremony, she wrote the caption - “Today, by presidential decree, I had the honour of granting the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo to one of the most iconic cultural figures in our country’s history”.She continued by saying, “Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. From the world’s biggest stages to the hearts of millions, she’s carried our story with strength, pride, and grace.
She’s pushed boundaries, made history, and reminded the world that greatness begins with knowing who you are and where you come from”.The ceremony was carried out after Lipa and her father performed her song ‘Era’ during the Sunny Hill music festival, which was created by the singer herself almost 7 years ago! Not only that, at the ceremony, the ‘Physical’ singer was even greeted by around 200 children, who were dressed in white and serenaded her with her own hit song ‘Levitating’.As of right now, Dua Lipa holds citizenship for Britain, Albania, and Kosovo. She was born in London and was granted Albanian citizenship in 2022.
