Janet Jackson honoured with Icon Award at AMAs
Janet Jackson was given one of the biggest honorary awards at the AMAs, the Icon Award. During her acceptance speech, Janet said, “My family, myself, our dream — it wasn't ever to be famous. We weren't raised like that; we always had a special love for music, dancing, and singing. Fame came with the result of hard work and dedication. My story, my family's story – it's truly an American story. This would have only happened in America.”
Jackson also added that she did not see herself as an icon even after all the years of success. She shared that "I am so so honoured. I am so grateful. I mean, no disrespect in any way, but I don't consider myself an icon."
Janet Jackson is the third winner of this award ever since it was announced at the award show in 2013.
Previously, the award had been taken by Lionel Richie as well as Rihanna.
