Lady Gaga has announced a new record called *Harlequin*, the soundtrack to her film *Joker: Folie à Deux*. It's set for September 27 and includes 13 tracks. This is just in time for the drop of the first single of what many are tentatively calling her seventh studio album, often referred to as *LG7*.
Despite *LG7*, although many fans were waiting keenly, Gaga has managed to put to rest the wrangling over *Harlequin* by labeling teasers and posts on social media as a different project.
She hinted that this album is particularly themed with the movie, thus not being her next full studio release. It posted messages that have been subtle in nature, like "I'm ready for my interview" and "Don't tell me what to wear, don't tell me what to say," accompanying her video shot performing an acoustic version of guitar playing. Even the banners are flashing with the number labeled "6.5," suggesting Gaga might see this as a separate album from her regular catalog.
The new *Harlequin* album comes on the same date as the musical companion to *Joker: Folie à Deux*, a sequel to the 2019 Joker film in which Gaga acts opposite Joaquin Phoenix. The film, hitting theaters on October 4, is a reimagining of the character Harley Quinn, with Gaga playing a version of the infamous comic book character known as "Lee." Gaga spoke with *Empire* about the project, stating that getting to work on this movie and its music was unlike anything else she's done before.
The album's tracklist has been filled with freshly recorded versions of classic songs, such as "That's Entertainment" and "Smile," that are said to appear in the film. Some songs have already been rumoured to align to the motion picture's themes, which represent a musical fusion of timeless pieces with Gaga's iconic voice.
Outside of *Harlequin*, Gaga has been recording her follow-up album, teasing fans with several studio session peeks. Not that long ago, she revealed a one-off surprise single called "Die With a Smile" with Bruno Mars; however, a representative tells Billboard that that song will not appear on her upcoming *LG7*.
Gaga's new album also promises to include Grammy-winning producer
Andrew Watt on the list of contributors. Watt has made his presence felt among other collaborations like for the Rolling Stones and Elton John. She was spotted in the studio with longtime collaborators Bloodpop and Benjamin Rice, sure signs that old friends will be part of the fray with her upcoming release. Speaking at the premiere of *Chromatica Ball Film*, Gaga declared that she, in collaboration with the producing team, has co-written and produced so many tracks, so she looks forward to further new music territories and crossing genre lines.
Tracks apparently set for the tracklist of *Harlequin* are "Good Morning," "The Joker," and "Folie à Deux"; the mix promises unique versions of true classics combined with Gaga's personal touch.
