Girish Karnad’s final play Crossing to Talikota premiered in the city

What’s regarded as late Girish Karnad’s nuanced take on the decline of Vijayanagara Empire in the 16th Century, the play — Crossing to Talikota (Rakshasa Tangadi) — premiered in Bengaluru on October 2. Directed by filmmaker-theatreperson Arjun Sajnani, the plot revolves around the final days of Ramaraya and his battle with the neighbouring Sultans, in a bid to assert his authority over the Deccan.The play features actors Ashok Mandanna, Veena Sajnani, Shashank Purushotham and Vivek Shah among others. The almost full-house show received a standing ovation with some of the city’s prominent personalities attending it.
