'Claiming The Night', a women's safety awarness event near Shahpura Lake, Bhopal
A good hearted do: Bhopalites got together last Saturday to raise awareness about the issue of women’s safety at public places, especially during nights, at this event titled Claiming The Night, organized by NGOs Bitiya and Sarokar near Shahpura Lake. The students of Jawahar Bal Bhavan staged a play with the message of making public places more safe for women, which was followed by a rock performance by the Bhopal-based music band Plus Minus Is Equal To.
Why should girls feel unsafe while travelling in their own city?
The event was appreciated by one and all, especially the girls who could be seen cheering the play and the musical performance.

“We have come here to support this cause as we want a safe Bhopal for us,” said 18-year-old Ipsa, adding, “Why should girls feel unsafe while travelling in their own city? We also want to be able to walk around freely even during late evenings without any fear.” Karan, a member of Plus Minus Is Equal To, remarked, “Parents don’t allow girls to step outside their homes after dark because they fear for their safety. Women too should have equal rights. Why should they be locked up in their houses? I’m glad I’ve done my bit in contributing to this cause.”
