Mumbai’s Tattoo Ashram’s Rahul Gaikwad was a centre of attraction in the entire festival. He has implanted magnets in his fingers which helps him work more efficiently, additionally he is one of the many few artists in the country who have mastered the African art of skin scarification. “A few years ago I learnt this art form from a German artist who was in Mumbai. I had to hire an interpreter as he did not know English or Hindi and I did not know German. Now in a month there are more than twenty clients who are getting it done.” Says Rahul. After learning he tried doing it on himself. He cut and scratched his own skin first which later scars even more. “The pain while getting this done is way more than the normal tattoos. I charge an amount of around twenty thousand per tattoo. Mainly the youngsters are interested in getting it done and Mumbai is a place which is always ahead in accepting new trends and methods of doing stuff.” Says Rahul.
