Violin maestro, Dr L Subramaniam and ace Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan performed recently at the TOI Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival, to a packed house. Subramaniam introduced the Ustad on stage, and Khan saab said, “December 28 is my dad’s anniversary. I’ve discovered a melody and named it after him. My father, whose name is Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan, used to say, ‘Compositions are made to present ragas.’ And for him, in his raga, Hafiz Kauns, I present a rare composition.” When it was Subramaniam’s turn, he started with a medley of nine ragas, merged beautifully into one composition.
He also presented Muthuswami Dikshitar’s Maha Ganapathim, and received a standing ovation before coming on stage again for a jugalbandi with the Ustad.
