We are, of course, talking about the launch of Times Food Guide 2008 and Times Nightlife Guide 2008!
Considering these Bibles of high living need that kind of launch pad too, the event kicked off with what have come to be known as citys food and nightlife Oscars. As actress Sameera Reddy launched the two guides at Kamal Mahal in the ITC Maurya - the hospitality partner for the do - awards were given to the best restaurants and nightlife joints in 47 categories. So from the best Spanish restaurant to the best mithai shop to the best bar in Delhi... the superlative joints in their respective fields came in for a pat on the back. And adding spice to the ceremony was stand-up comic Vir Das with his witty one-liners. Sample this, which came with the best Korean food category: A Korean is the person whose North doesnt agree with his South!
Both the comprehensive and reader-friendly guides, published by Times Group Books, are driven by the vision of Times Group MD, Vineet Jain. Sameera was sold on the idea of the guides. As she said, Times guides are an answer to every foodie and partyhoppers prayers. With so many new restaurants and clubs opening every other month, their importance is only accentuated. Especially for out-of-towners, these guides are very helpful. Title sponsors for this do were Seagrams Blenders Pride, event co-sponsor Sugarfree/Nutralite, supported by Kingfisher.
And then was the time to begin the second part of do - embarking on the Gourmet Safari. With rows and rows of tempting fare from citys best restaurants and pubs enticing the guests, the venue looked liked a foodies dream come true.
While many settled for nursing their drinks in the luxurious, sparkling red tents set in the middle of Nandiya Gardens, others headed for the food. Photographer Samar Jodha was seen recommending seafood from Swagath. Their Pomfret Kadipatta and Prawn Gassi are very interesting, he said. Sonali Punj, meanwhile, sampled an eclectic fare. I sampled stuff from The Orient Express and The China Kitchen, and now I am going off for some gelato, she let on. Others were so busy going mmm that talking in the middle of it was just not done. One delicious do, surely!
