There was a lot of masti at a recent art do in the capital where Manil Gupta’s paintings and sculptures were on display. This art show was titled ‘LoL’, making people wonder about the humour behind the paintings. The laughter had a ring of sarcasm as Manil’s works were inspired by human life and its tragedies. “Life is absurd, silly and funny. There is violence and tragedy too.
All we can do is add some humour to it, and that’s the inspiration behind my paintings,” he said.
The paintings were done in black and white with a little splash of colour here and there. Interestingly, Manil’s wife, Aditi sported a black and white dress accessorised with a smiley brooch. She said, “I’m wearing the expression of my husband.” Jerome Bonnafont, the French ambassador to India, found the work impressive.
Suneet Varma had again let his hair down — the spikes, to be precise. “I’m tired of using chemicals on my hair. Also, now I can simply get out of bed and attend parties without having to make an effort to do my hair,” he said. Malini Ramani beat the nip in the air with her sexy fur stole and had a gala time catching up with those present. Sunil Sethi spent quite a bit of time with the hosts as he checked out the art on display. Also spotted at the do were Renyu Tandon, Payal Kapoor and Manish Talwar.
