From the moment Neeraj Gupta’s art exhibition was inaugurated, it seemed it would be overshadowed by political discussions, but the two important guests of the evening —first lady Gursharan Kaur and CM Sheila Dikshit — ensured that art remained the focus of all discussions there. While both ladies spoke about the sculptor and his work, many present tried to speak to them about various political issues.
Finally, when Kaur was asked about rising inflation, she quipped, “This is an art exhibition and not a meeting for economic planning. So, let’s focus on that.”
When we asked Dikshit about her penchant for art, she suddenly turned philosophical and told us, “Yes, I love art. What else is there for one to relax? Wouldn’t one go mad otherwise?”
Designer Jenjum Gadi, who was present here with his design partner Jasleen Kochhar, said that the only reason he made it to the event was because he wanted to meet the CM! Though he didn’t manage to speak to her personally, Jenjum did spend quite a few moments listening to what she was saying!
At the third consecutive event this season, we spotted Alka Raghuvanshi sans any woollens. Talking to us about her ‘style statement’, she said, “I don't feel that cold and never really wear any woollens. I guess my Punjabi spirit keeps me snug!”
We also met another unlikely Punjabi at this event — model Talia’s mother Anita, who told us that she’s an Indian married to an American. In fact, she surprised us by chatting in Punjabi and said, “Hello ji, kiddan... Malcha Marg... assi Punjabi haan!”
