Shane Warne, who took a flight back to Australia with Liz Hurley a few days ago, was to get a send-off party from his Rajasthan Royals teammates in Mumbai. But that didn’t work out because Warne left soon after the RR match against the
Mumbai Indians, apparently because of his row with Rajasthan Cricket Association’s Sanjay Dixit.
“We were planning a grand send-off in Mumbai. Warne’s parents had also been invited, but due to the recent controversy, we did not have any celebration,” revealed an RR insider.
Shane also decided to keep a low profile and did not wait for the farewell.
“Shane had had a long and wonderful innings with the RR. This farewell party had been discussed much before the controversy. It was to be a grand event, but finally, Shane took a midnight flight, minus any fanfare,” adds the source.
For those who still want to know what controversy we are referring to: Shane lost it after being defeated by RCB in Jaipur and apparently abused Dixit, secretary of the RCA, for not preparing the pitch according to Shane’s requirements, calling him “a liar and an egoist”. Finally, RR co-owner Shilpa Shetty had to apologise for his behaviour. The RCA lodged a complaint against Warne, and the BCCI asked him to pay a $50,000 fine.
