A heady cocktail of gourmet food, glitzy fashion, rollicking fun and cricketing charm, the do hosted by restaurateur Ramola Bachchan (she has recently opened her new dining restaurant and lounge bar Manre), turned out to be the hottest party in town.
Opening a restaurant in Delhi is bound to be a wise decision as people here are food savvy and love to experiment. They like to try out everything new and never fail to appreciate the good food you bring them, said a beaming Ramola. While husband Ajitabh Bachchan and daughters Namrata and Naina were quite media shy, Ramola was all praise for her friends who had come to celebrate.
I feel food and fashion gel along quite well. I share a good rapport with the fashion fraternity too, as I have had shows with Tarun Tahiliani, Suneet Varma, Rohit Bal and Reena Dhaka in London. I am really lucky to have such friends who are with me all along, Ramola exclaimed. The only thing missing at the family do was the Bachchan brigade from Bollywood. But the Delhi glitterati amply compensated for it. Seen among the gathering were designers Ashish Soni, Suneet Varma, J J Valaya, Renu Tandon, Rahul Jain, cricketer Nikhil Chopra and Gautam Bhimani, Riddhima Kapoor with husband Bharat Sahni, Sonali and Peter Punj, actor Abhay Deol, businessman Sanjay Sharma, hair stylist Ambika Pillai, Aroon and Rekha Poorie, Sandeep and Seema Jajodia, socialite Chetan Seth with wife Manya and daughter Ameeta, model-cum-DJ Ignatius, animal activist Ambika Shukla and many more.
In addition to a salsa performance by model Jesse Randhawa and choreographer Sandeep Soparrkarr, glamorous models catwalked in designer creations by Rohit Bal and Manoviraj Khosla. Adding pizzazz to the night were the hot hunks of the Delhi Daredevils team who seemingly enjoyed their short stint on ramp. Posing for shutterbugs, smiling throughout and waving flirtatiously to female fans, the cricketers seemed to have more fun than most. Even as top models like Joey Mathews, Krishna Somani, Sapna Kumar, Sonalika Sahay and Shruti Agarwal pumped up the oomph factor, catching more eyeballs were cricketers Verendra Sehwag, Glenn McGrath, Gautam Gambhir and Shoaib Malik. While designers showcased their fall-winter concepts once again, the outfits donned by the cricketers seemed slightly oversized but they carried it with the right spirit. Ask Ambika Shukla (she was loudly lauding the cricketers when we spotted her) whether the players look better on the ramp or on the field and she quickly quipped, It was fun watching the cricketers walking the ramp. But standing there at the back, I could barely see anything but their heads. I had a great time, though. Next came the auction of cricketers T-shirts and with a cricket-savvy emcee like Mandira Bedi handling the show, it was bound to be a highly successful affair. She did her best to ensure some big bids, thus helping the underprivileged. A commendable feat, indeed, and overall, a truly enjoyable evening! monika.rawal@indiatimes.co.in
