Delhi’s traffic police has clearly been thinking up ways to coach stubborn Dilliwalas in the rules of the road. Part of their endeavours was a street play and a small rally organized at India Gate earlier this month. Led by Inspector Seema Sharma, the rally was held to increase road safety awareness, and conducted under the aegis of the Delhi Traffic Police and Road Safety and Emergency Services (RoSES).

The theme of the street play, titled Aye Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chaloand directed by Haider Naqvi, was, obviously, road safety. It showed incidents which lead to road accidents like talking on a cell phone while on the road, not obeying the zebra crossing rule and not following traffic signals. The play also depicted the “do you know who I am” attitude of Dilliwalas that leads to fights and accidents on the roads. At intervals, the actors would ask Inspector Sharma, “Kyun ma’am, right kaha na?” and she would reply, “Absolutely right.” Inspector Sharma later told us, “People have a habit of not following traffic rules. This street play was conducted so they realize the consequences of their actions on the road.”
