Mujra mohabbat wala: It was a throwback to parties in an earlier time, with celebrations as glamorous as they are today.
Industrialist VC Burman recently celebrated his 69th birthday with friends and family, and the highlight of the evening was a mujra, in which the dancers, dressed in golden Anarkalis with topis and beautiful ghumars, danced to golden oldies like “Chalte Chalte” and “Inhi Logon Ne”.

It was very elegant and genteel, with flowers all over the venue. Sweety Burman, VC’s wife, who hosted the evening, chose a sparkling long white gheredaar kurta and loose pants for the occasion. “I also wanted to have some fireworks, but as it is my husband’s 69th birthday, I’ve postponed the plans for a grand party on a larger scale for his 70th birthday,” she said. The guest list was something of a power list too, including industrialists, politicians, and even an actor.
The family: Mohit Burman was at the party, solo, but smart in a formal suit, and so was Amit Burman, with his tall and glamorous wife Divya. Praful Patel made an appearance at a social do after a while, and was seen chatting with industrialist Rajan Mittal.
Starry attraction: Another ‘special appearance’ at the party was actor Ranjeet (the villain of many 70s and 80s potboilers), dressed unusually in a stark, long black robe, accompanied by his wife Nazneen and children Divya and Shiva. When asked whether his kids were interested in getting into films, he said, “Unfortunately, both my kids are not too keen on joining Bollywood. Shiva is a professional motor racer, and my daughter Divya is into fashion designing.”
