Rayudu’s cup of woes runneth over; his bowling action under ICC scanner

The Australian tour started on a disastrous note for Ambati Rayudu. The Hyderabadi cricketer, who joined the Indian team Down Under for the limited overs leg of the tour, got out for a duck in the first ODI against Australia. He also squandered India’s only review, which turned out to be a costly error as MS Dhoni was wrongly adjudged LBW, but couldn’t review it. Things got even worse for Rayudu as he has now been reported for a suspect bowling action.

The 33-year-old had bowled two overs in the first ODI in Sydney and according to a statement by the ICC, the match officials’ report, which was handed over to the India team management, concerns were raised about the legality of his bowling action.“Rayudu’s bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Rayudu is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known,” read the ICC statement.
