A night with the maestro!

It���s not everyday that we get to watch Ustad Zakir Hussain in performance in Kolkata.
No wonder, when Ustadji decided to accompany Purbayan Chatterjee on stage people turned up in droves to enjoy the recital at Nazrul Manch. And that���s not all. The city���s musical fraternity seemed equally interested to catch Purbayan in performance with the tabla virtuoso.Purbayan was equally at ease playing a Raag Yaman, Raag Ragesree or a dhoon on Bhairabi. Ustadji, of course has his own style to play to the gallery.
And this was definitely not one of those concerts where you could enter and leave at your will and talk to the person next to you during the course of the performance. Photography and video recording were allowed for only 10 minutes after which the shutterbugs were asked to buzz off. On spotting a gentleman sipping tea during his performance Ustadji advised, ���Yeh na to restaurant nahi, hotel. Agar aapko chai pina hai toh baahar jake pijiyega.��� The crowd immediately clapped in appreciation but wonder whether Ustadji is aware that a section of classical musicians is more than eager to perform in city clubs or auditoria where people enjoy their music with a drink in hand!
