Hok Folk, a folk festival held on the Jadavpur University premises recently, saw a huge participation of musicians and music lovers of the city. The initiative was aimed at bringing folk music to the mainstream music scene. Popular musicians took to the stage and mesmerised the crowd with their renditions of several folk melodies. Singers like Silajit, Pata, Timir Biswas, Koushik Chakraborty, Jojo, Dipannita Acharya and others joined in to celebrate the beauty of folk music.
“It was an amazing experience for me. Though music concerts are quite common these days, it’s hard to find a proper folk festival. Hok Folk has made sure folk music gets what it deserves. The music at the concert connected with our inner soul,” said Koushik.
Timir also performed at the concert and thought many such concerts should come up and it should not just be a money-making machine. “I never expected a music concert to give me such an experience. Musicians from different ages came and participated spontaneously. Not for a single moment did I have to make an effort to involve the audience,” he said.
