A bike rally to promote safe riding in Lucknow
Biking enthusiasts of the city took to the streets on the morning of Independence Day to participate in a bike rally jointly organised by the group, Awadh Spirited Riders and an NGO for children, to promote safe riding among city folk.
The contingent, which consisted of more than 80 riders, traversed the city roads with the tricolour on their bikes.

They also made a brief stop at La Martiniere College to educate students on safe riding.
The students broke into loud cheer as the bikers rode into the school. The loudest applause was reserved for Mayank Tewari, a teacher at the school, who turned up in his never-seen-before avatar of a seasoned rider, complete with a riding jacket and aviators.
Interestingly, the school prohibits its students from driving any motorized vehicle on the campus as the majority of the students are underage, so was there actually any need for the bikers to make a stop at the school? “It may seem like a contradiction,” replied Carlyle Mc-Farland, principal of the school, “but since the agenda was to talk about how important it is to start driving only when one has a valid license at the age of 18 and the implications of using fake documents to get a DL issued before that, I agreed. Secondly, the school’s teachers are also participating in the rally. Motorbikes are a boys’ toy and they need to be taught how to use them correctly.”
