Excitement was in the air as women of all ages gathered at Jiamau, in Gomti Nagar on Saturday morning for the All-Women Bike Rally organised by the Navbharat Times, Lucknow on the ocassion of International Women’s Day. Carrying a theme of ‘Inspiring Change’, the rally had more than 150 women participating in the event. Flagged off by DIG Navniet Sakera from Lohia Path in Lucknow, this was a pan-India initiative with a similar rally being organised in 12 other cities of the country the same day.
From early morning, women were spotted with their bikes and other two-wheelers at Lohia Path eager to flaunt their control over the mean machines. A few were also accompanied by their husbands, brothers, who were happy to ride pillion with the women.
A participant, Rashmi Mehra excitedly shared that she had been riding a motorbike since 27 years. “I wanted to prove that women are no less than men in anyway and I believe girls are more careful riders than boys. We are aware of all traffic rules and also follow them diligently,” she said.
Celebrating the spirit of womanhood, the rallyists rode through different spots in the city including Parivartan Chowk, Kapoorthala, Mahanagar, before heading back to Lohia Path. The participants who comprised college students, homemakers and professionals, were given helmets and a certificate at the end of the rally.
