Mumbaikars gathered to celebrate Gaurav Punj’s latest book on Himalayan adventures and understandably, this became an event that completely brought into focus, the importance of trekking in life.
Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar spoke at the event about the significance of treks and also the part Bollywood played in influencing it. She said, “Ayan Mukherji’s ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Dewani’, has inspired many city slickers to pursue trekking.”
She also shared the story of the time when Alia Bhatt did her first trek with the author Gaurav in 2010 accompanied by her mother, former actress Soni Razdan.

Rujuta said, “Soni told Alia that if you can do trekking, you can take up any challenge that will come your way. If you can trek, you can do anything.”
The nutritionist, Rujuta also emphasised on how treks inspire discipline and ethics in people.
Elaborating further on the ethics of trekking, Gaurav, who authored ‘The Land Of Moonlit Snows’, his second book, said “Trekking ethics come from within. There is nothing like making a trek eco-friendly. Trekking by nature is eco-friendly.”
The event had everyone captivated as it witnessed a hearty conversation between Gaurav and award-winning mountaineer and author, Harish Kapadia, along with one of the leading fitness experts in the country Rujuta.
At the event, Harish, winner of Piolets D'Or Asia award (Oscar of mountaineering) spoke about his extensive experience. He said, “Trekking enables one to discover more than just ‘I’. You come across different people, culture and food. As long as you are open to local experiences of the region, you are good to go. ”
