Usha Agarwal of Point Of View gallery, in keeping with her penchant for exhibiting something unique, hosted the preview of Mala Sethis artwork on silk and glass, teamed with wood and ancient coins, on Wednesday evening. Over wine and cheese, Usha and Malas friends congregated to savour the strikingly different works that has taken Mala three years to put together.
The honours of inaugurating the show were done by Zarine Khan, who came accompanied by friend Bina Aziz and studiously looked over each work. Its a revelatory collection, remarked Zarine. Lady-in-red Ananya Banerjee profused about Mala having made potent use of abstraction in textures as difficult as silk and glass; whereas Vipta Kapadia, who spent a lot of time trading notes with friend Devayani Parekh, harked back to days when she herself used to paint on fabric. It is a beautiful medium to express ones thoughts, she said. Glass artist
Kayur Patel too sounded enthusiastic about someone having made such a great use of glass whose optimum potential remains untapped, according to him.
Nawaz Singhania made a quick tour, admiring the works; as did Remu and (an Indian-outfit clad) Naaz Zaveri who came en route to another event in the burbs. Political-hopefuls Vijay Kalantri and Viren Shah caught up with each other, chatting about, what else, but the upcoming elections! Vidya Zaveri whose Burmese silver was also on display along with Ushas, was there to support good friend Usha. Lalitha Lajmi, Sarayu Doshi and Chhaya Momaya dropped by too for a dekko.
